"Passamot Ulos fabric is usually given by the parents of the woman to the parents of the man in the marriage procession," Sitorus said in a press conference after the fashion show titled Tenoen Ethnic by Bekraf in Indonesia Fashion Week 2017 in Jakarta.

Ulos Pinuncaan serves as a sign that the parents of the woman had handed over responsibility and believe that the men could fulfill obligations well. Ulos Passamot also has a meaning as a prayer in an atmosphere of love.

"It's hard to get used to weave finer. Therefore, the fabric for custom should have been louder, different when made into clothing. However, now the weavers in Batak already began to weave fine," said Sitorus.

Ulos developed hereditary by the Batak people in northern Sumatra in a manner similar to Palembang songket. Handmade textiles usually have dominant color red, black and white decorated by variety of woven from threads of gold or silver.
