Honda Motor running Clarity Fuel Cell taxi tests

Tinuku ~ Honda is preparing operational tests of fuel-cell powered cars for taxis. Honda Motor Co Ltd, which announced the project on May 18, 2017, will begin the operation of a taxi using the fuel cell "Clarity Fuel Cell" (FCV) at the test phase in July 2017 and is planned for three years.

Honda Motor's project aims to expand the application of FCV which is currently only used for government and city offices. The test is also to mine data as a material for research and development to improve FCV performance.

Honda will conduct the test by partnering by Teito Motor Transportation Co. Ltd. in Miyagi Prefecture of Sendai, Omiya Jidousya in Saitama Prefecture of Saitama City, and Hino Traffic Co Ltd in Kanagawa Prefecture of Yokohama City.

The company will lease two cars to Teito and Sendai Taxi, while each one goes to Omiya Jidousya and Hino Traffic. The four taxi companies will use FCV for commercial purposes.

FCV can perform a run of about 750 kilometers for a single charge and it takes about three minutes to charge the vehicle with hydrogen. FCV is a five-seater sedan type car.
