May 27, 2006 earthquake devastated Yogyakarta province and part of Central Java. An earthquake magnitude 6.3 Richter Scale occurred during peak hours morning at 06:55 with duration 52 seconds.

The earthquake originated from depth of 33 kilometers underground, shaking resulted in significant damage especially Bantul in Yogyakarta province and Klaten district in Central Java province. More than 5000 people died and 3700 injured.
