South Korea's leading company LG Electronics is reorganizing in response to the ongoing business paradigm shift in future technologies including AI, big data, and internet of things (IoT).

The new division will be controlled directly at the Chief Technology Officer and will focus on developing and implementing future technology services. This step is part of the company's efforts in industrial transformation.

"We will take business to the next level with new technologies like AI, big data and IOT as the building blocks for the Fourth Industrial Revolution," said LG Electronics Chief Technology Officer Ahn Seung-Kwon.

Two units designated on June 1 will be responsible for developing new intelligent services combined with the company's decades of expertise in the manufacture of equipment and other hardware.

The AI research unit will focus on developing data-based technologies and software platforms through voice or image sensors, then input into other hardware businesses including smartphones, TVs, and home appliances.

Last month, LG Electronics launched a partnership with Google for LG SIGNATURE premium air purifier with Google Assistant for voice recognition. Other premium products such as refrigerators and washing machines will also come with voice command feature.

Advanced robotic research units are designed to develop core technology ahead of the smart robot era. Last year LG Electronics launched a smart robot for airport called Airbot. The smart device comes with two models to guide passengers and for airport cleaning facilities.

The company is also determined to improve the workforce training. Those who produce real work for AI and robotics will receive promotion to the executive level. This reshuffle took place on LG and Samsung to lead the smart home industry business.
