The Stuttgart-based auto giant said it will produce all-electric and hybrid passenger cars of Mercedes-Benz for all models by 2022. The company has planned an austerity target of 4 billion euros (US$4.8 billion) to prepare for all related issues.

Daimler's transformative move follows a similar decision by Tata Motors's Jaguar Land Rover to produce EV and hybrid versions of all models by 2020. Volvo takes a more revolutionary decision to stop production of gasoline and diesel engines by 2019.

Mercedes-Benz currently has a wide range of EV and hybrid cars ready for sale. The company also announced EQ A as the latest electric model to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2017.
