Mexico’s govt made deal with Alibaba Group

The Mexican government said on Wednesday it had signed an agreement with Alibaba Group Holding Ltd to market Mexican products and services, mainly from small and medium sized companies to e-commerce platforms. The deal comes as Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto travels to China to discuss trade and investment.

The Mexican government is making every effort and exploiting the world-class e-commerce platform as part of its strategy to diversify and open new global markets for the country's products.

US President Donald Trump repeatedly threatened to end the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) which underlies trilateral trade between the United States, Canada and Mexico for US$1.2 trillion.

The United States, Canada and Mexico ended a second round of negotiations on Tuesday to actualize NAFTA. High officials say progress has been made. But President Pena Nieto also stepped up efforts to open new trade routes.

Chinese vice minister Wang Shouwen said China was interested in opening up possibilities and building a free trade agreement with Mexico.
