Tesla Semi truck line up future of freight industry

Tesla Semi truck took its first debut last week where Tesla Inc. CEO Elon Musk said the companies that still operate the traditional vehicles would be hit hard. Musk loudly says anyone who drives a petrol vehicle is the same as driving a steam engine.

The futuristic design electric truck drove about 300 to 500 miles from a single battery charge. The truck has a drag coefficient of 0.36 or unprecedented on a truck and even beats some modern passenger cars.

Musk confirms the propulsion is equipped with 4 independent electric motors on the rear axle allowing torque to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 20 seconds with a full load where the truck generally takes no load of about 5 seconds to reach the same speed.

"We want to show you an electric truck will hit all diesel. If you're competing, Tesla Semi will push diesel out of the track. You drive it like a sports car," Musk said in April.

Uber and Volvo agreed on 24,000 self-driving cars

Uber plans to buy 24,000 self-driving cars from Volvo in a non-binding framework deal to fill autonomous driving divisions. A statement on Monday said Volvo will be presenting an XC90 SUV equipped with autonomous technology for Uber from 2019 to 2021.

Volvo XC90 has just launched in the starting price of about US$50,000. The self-driving system is being developed by Uber's Advanced Technologies Group and has been testing the prototype of Volvo cars for over a year. Cars in theory will be available through apps to serve passengers without a driver.

"Our goal is to invest in vehicles that can be produced on a large scale, it's only a commercial business when you can remove drivers," Uber's automotive alliance chief Jeff Miller said.

No financial details are disclosed in the agreement. Miller said a small number of cars will be bought using equity and others will be purchased using debt financing. Volvo with Uber last year built an $ 300 million alliance for steerin…

The recycling company welcomed the electric car revolution to build a process for extracting metals from old batteries into a cheaper and efficient way to produce cobalt and lithium for less. Used battery recycling technology will save costs and will take advantage in the future to sell recycled batteries.

The value of lithium carbonate and natural or synthetic graphite has doubled in the past three or four years and has become the most valuable material other than cobalt in the automotive industry. Sales of electric vehicles are expected to pass 14 million annually by 2025 and will trigger a surge in battery consumption.

"It's a great value for the recycling industry in the future." said Albrecht Melber of Accurec GmbH in Germany, told Reuters.

The automotive batteries industry requires an annual addition of 30,000 tons of cobalt and 81,000 tons of lithium to meet demand in 2021 of which 11,600 tons of cobalt and 24,900 tons of lithium are recycled in 2026. Each is 9.7 …
