Changan Automobile in 2025 only sell electric vehicles

Changan Automobile Co., Ltd. announced it will no longer sell traditional vehicles by 2025. The automaker headquartered in Chongqing said the company will focus on electric vehicles and has set up a Shangri-La Plan with an investment of 100 billion yuan (US$15 billion) into four new energy vehicle areas.

Changan Automobile says the mission of Shangri-La Plan or Changan Automobile New Energy Strategy is an investment to describe the brand of the future. The company in 2016 sold more than 3 million cars it says in 2025 will only sell electric vehicles.

Changan Automobile president Zhu Huarong said the Shangri-La Plan includes investments of 40 billion yuan (US$6 billion) for new energy, 10 billion yuan (US$1.5 billion) for the development of new exclusive energy platform, 30 billion yuan (US$4.5 billion) for batteries, and 20 billion yuan (US$3 billion) for charging and service facilities.

The plan will involve partnerships to create new energy ecosystems with leading global car manufacturers including Ford, PSA, Mazda, and Suzuki. The partnership will also involve battery developers, smart car technologies, charging infrastructure, and more.

Huarong said the company in 2025 will launch 21 pure electric vehicles and 12 plug-in hybrids. The new energy vehicles will also get super fast battery charging technology in the 5 minute and 4th level autonomous drive.
