Renault Kwid electric SUV into production in China
"In China we can not sell Leaf. It's too expensive and too sophisticated. Not selling Renault Fluence. What can be sold in China? Cheap electric cars, "Ghosn said on Sunday.
Ghosn said the engineers are currently developing Kwid with electric power for the car market in China and this car will be a very cheap electric car. Electric Kwid will also be marketed to other developing countries around the world.
In August the Renault-Nissan Alliance announced in collaboration with Dongfeng Motor Group Co. to build an electric car in China. Kwid is the first product of Nissan and Renault in sharing platforms. In Indonesia this car is the only European brand car sold at a price of about Rp100 million (US$7500).
Nissan, Renault and Mitsubishi are currently incorporated in a consortium to build a common platform to improve production cost efficiency. Ghosn said the three companies developed an electric car platform, battery set and motor set.
