Tesla Roadster sports car hit 2020 for $200,000

Tesla Inc. on Thursday started the debut of Tesla Semi heavy-duty truck and when the trailer opened a red Roadster out of which Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the US$200,000 electric sports car would be the fastest mass-produced car ever and would hit the market at 2020.

A sports car with removable roof is an updated version of Tesla's first car production. The interior platform has four seats and covers a distance of 620 miles (1,000 km) with a single charge. Musk says the car ran from 0 to 60 miles per hour (100 km per hour) in 1.9 seconds and a maximum speed of over 250 mph.

"You are traveling from LA to San Francisco, and returning quickly without recharging. This is a hardcore smackdown for gasoline cars. Guing a gasoline sports car will feel like a steam engine," Musk said.

The Roadster will be available by 2020 and Tesla says the first 1,000 car production will be sold for US$250,000 paid in full up front, while the model will then go on sale from US$200,000. Analysts say Semi and Roadster will be vehicles at the top of the company segment.
