Lenovo launches Z5 smartphone under $200

Tinuku - Lenovo Group Ltd on Tuesday unveiled its new series flagship smartphone under US$200. The PC giant and minnow phone headquartered in Hong Kong has launched a low-cost model Z5 smartphone to generate sales in the world's largest and most competitive home market for smart devices mobile.

The Z5 model sold from 1,299 yuan (US$200) to 1,799 yuan based on variants in memory size and storage capacity has come below the price of the flagship model of Huawei Technologies that has up to 5,000 yuan. The new model is also part of the repositioning of the company to return to become the most affordable national brand for consumers

The launch in Beijing marks Lenovo's latest effort, which over the past few years has been under increasingly serious pressure by new competitors including Huawei, Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi. Lenovo has been trying to revive the smartphone business four years after buying Motorola Mobility for US$2.9 billion.

Despite a leading position in global PC sales, Lenovo remains a small smartphone brand at home and abroad. Shipping 8.1 million handsets in the first quarter in eighth position globally and market share shrank to 2.4 percent in the first quarter or down from 3.1 percent last year.
